The Claw

Unfortunately, we have to do the bandages EVERY day. First, there is a layer of vasoline coated gauze. Then plain gauze over that, then the self sticking tape. The first time we did it was awful. The therapist said it could be done every other day. We waited and the yellow gauze had stuck to the open wounds......YIKES

Poor Kurt!

Now we are suited up to take out the garbage! At least he can still do most of his chores!

First Fall Storm

The ocean is really striking in shades of gray.

The wave breaks are foamy, and the waves are quite high. Surfs Up!

Hanging Out

We were all hanging out after watching Oregon lose to California..............

Shields Came to See Grandpa

MacKenzie finally got something she could play with at Grammy and Grandpa's house.

Casey and Paige will have a doll to play with!

Levi just can't get enough of Grammy's pie..........He was actually telling one of his buddies about the pie. Makes a grandmother so proud!

Time to Smell the Roses

Kurt got this adorable "smiley face" floral arrangement from the employees at Lincom.

Newport is the friendliest city in the world!

Perhaps a poster for SAFETY FIRST............

Today was a very painful one for Kurt. It took 1 1/2 hours to remove the gauze. A whole bottle of hydrogen peroxide was used. Kathleen will be his physical therapist.

This is the physicians assistant and his name is Doug. He had to shoot up all the fingers again because it was so painful.

You can tell by the body language of his clenched fist, just how painful this was.

Tomorrow will be better.

Even Faja has a boo boo

Faja has had a reoccurring cyst for some time now. It opens and heals, opens and heals. So we finally decided to have it removed. No frisbee tossing for 10 days, and no beach either! In addition, I am supposed to keep her from licking the stitches............Right........

My Hurt Hero.......

Heres another one of those horrible banana slugs....... But only one shriek from me and my one-handed hero came on the scene.

His left hand is going to be so strong.
This slug is slightly bigger than the last, but they are SMALL...

O U C H...........

Well, the table saw won......darn it. Here we were in the emergency room right before the surgery. His hand was pumped full of blockers. We had to drive from Newport emergency room to Corvallis, which is one hour away..... (give or take a minute or two).

This was after the 1 1/2 hour surgery. The doctor is very optimistic that he will recover full use of at least three fingers and 3/4" use of the ring and pinky. He severed the tendon underneath the ring finger and shattered the bone. They fused wire to the bone at the knuckle and hope that it will hold. He lost the top of his pinky. We go for x-rays, and rehab next Wednesday.

We won't even talk about the pain.

Banana Slug

YIK........This is actually a small one. They are so gross. Seriously, see the little antennae........ Well a little bit of salt on this guy did him in. I hosed him away.

In Honor of 9-1-1

I received about a dozen e-mails to be sure and fly the flag in honor of 911..........So proudly she waves, and I made it and quilted it myself.........................

Stop light

Kurt installed the stop light for bothof us. It tells us when to stop so he can walk in front of the trashcans to get into his shop. Cute, huh?

He got the idea from Bob's house, and I found it at our local Fred Meyer.

Continuation of the Workshop

Kurt has done all the work on these two "closets" himself. All the drywall, itchy insulation, hung the doors, and taped......It is pretty soundproof when these huge machines operate.

Lean Left....Can't turn the picture

I wanted to show you the entire shower. What a blessing this is! When Faja and I come home from the beach, she goes right into the shower and I hose her paws and entire under-body off from tons of kicked up sand. When my grandboys Jared and Jaiden were here, Jared would hose off his feet and jump into the shower, and I would give Jaiden his own shower. He fit perfectly under the hose.

Grammy's Little Helpers

The kids were very busy watering all of my flowers. Levi did a good job helping his sister fill her watering can.

Garage Sink

The sink is finished in the garage and Kurt did the whole job himself. Tiling, installing the sink, and doing the plumbing. Really comes in handy.

Dog Door

The doggie door is finally finshed. Kurt used his new tile saw, and Faja is much more confortable going in and out.

Kylie>>>>>A TEENAGER....Yikes

Where has the time flown?????
Kylie is 13. She is going to play volleyball again this year.
Loves music, wears make-up and argues with her parents. Typical......don't ya think!

Grands Visit for Surfing Competition

Shields came for a week-end visit for a local surfing competition.......Aren't they cute in their jammies???

New Bed

Faja got a brand new bed. An orthopedic mattress, and its huge.

We hope it will add a few more years to her life!

Hummingbird

Sadly, these silly birds fly in the front door and smack into the plate glass window. It knocks the wind right out of them. I picked him up (with heavy cardboard) and put him in the shade.

After a few minutes, he flew up to the
edge of the flower pot and then flew away.

Relaxing

Never was Kurt as relaxed in Vegas as he is in Newport........

New Tile Saw

Kurt has been busy with his new tile saw. Of course, we had one of those, but we gave it away. So, he put tile on the inside of the doggie door and tiled the sink in the garage........

Pictures will follow after grout is put in.....

New Hair-Do

Obviously, I am growing my hair!!! Its a little colder here and I need some warmth on my neck.........I tried to grow out my bangs.......but was
not so hotso........So, I put bangs back in (which Kurt prefers) and layered out the top.

Its a wash and go....truer words were never spoken.......

Lunar Eclipse

Unfortunately, I didn't wake up to get a picture of the moon turning red.

But the whole moon showing at sunrise was pretty spectacular.
